I was blessed to get to share about foster care and our farm retreat ministry on 99.3 KDWC this morning. At the end of the interview I made a desperate plea for listeners to consider foster care and adoption. In case you were listening and landed here, I wanted to share a link with you to a great organization who creates videos to introduce you to children who are waiting to be adopted in Minnesota. I know I am probably too pushy when it comes to encouraging people to adopt. It’s just, this is the thing that breaks my heart to pieces. That here in this “Christian nation” children wait for not months but YEARS for someone to care about them. That children go to sleep praying for a mom and dad tomorrow, and they wake up each day with a little less hope. That many of these children will eventually just age out of foster care and enter society as an adult without a family. I mean, can you even imagine?
Why is there such a great response when a stray dog needs a home, and we turn the other way when a child needs one? I know, I know it’s a much greater ask. And it’s also a much greater gift. And it’s also our Christian responsibility. So I’m begging you today….Watch one of these videos. Watch and see if your heart breaks like mine. Watch and see a child just wanting to be loved. Watch and realize you could be the one to change their life.
The thing is, they aren’t perfect. They’ve been hurt and so they have a lot to work through. And every day they wait makes it worse. You’re going to have to prove over and over and over again to them that they are worthy of being loved. And that will be hard. But it will be worth it.
Because the thing is, you aren’t perfect either. You’ve been hurt and had a lot to work through too. But God looked at you and all your brokenness and said “I want that one” and He adopted you. And He knew in order to win your love He’d have to to prove over and over and over again that you were worthy of it. So He traded His Son for you. And He still believes it was worth it.
And so I have hope. Because Jesus still lives and He is stirring your heart to action. He is wanting to bless you incredibly. He is wanting to give you a child and give a child a family. Could you please just watch a video, and not turn away?
